History
Égyptologue égypto-géorgien.
Après des études d'égyptologie au Musée de Berlin, où il est l'élève de Kurt Sethe, il est rattaché à l'Institut allemand du Caire de 1937 à 1946 et devient le secrétaire de Ludwig Borchardt peu de temps avant le décès du savant allemand.
Il participe à la fondation de la Société d'études historiques juives en Égypte et il devient le secrétaire de rédaction du Bulletin de cette société.
